Microblading is the process of creating hair like strokes to give the appearance of a natural brow. It is a procedure categorized under permanent makeup, but unlike traditional cosmetic tattooing, it is less permanent. Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type and skincare routine. The procedure is done by using a hand tool with ultra fine needles and each ‘hair’ is gently placed into the skin, giving a natural and realistic look. Microblading can correct or fully reconstruct lost eyebrows. It is excellent for those wanting to enhance their brows, those who have little to no eyebrows, or thinning brows from age or over-tweezing. Pigments used are chosen to match the natural or desired brow color, and skin tone will also be taken into consideration.

Cosmetic tattoo procedures cannot be performed on anyone that is pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, taking blood thinning medication, or anyone currently using Accutane, or have used Accutane within the past year.

Oily Skin: Increased oil production can cause hair strokes to blur, alternative methods such as a combo brow or ombre brow may be suggested.
Smoking: Smokers may notice that their cosmetic tattoos will fade faster.
Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading.
Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow before care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine 24 hours before your procedure.

Since microblading pigments are not implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos, the area will naturally fade overtime. Microblading typically lasts 1-3 years, depending on skin type (normal, oily, dry), age (youthful/mature). Skincare routine will also affect the lasting effect of the pigment: patients who tan, uses products with AHA or Glycolic Acid with fade faster as your skin will resurface faster. Each individual’s color retention within the skin will vary. To maintain the brows looking fresh, a touch up is suggested every 12-18 months. Clients can let the microbladed area fade over time, but please note a slight shadow may remain. Touch ups are normal and expected for permanent cosmetics.

Microblading is simulated hair like strokes only. A combo brow is the combination of microbladed strokes with added shading. Shading is a different technique of depositing pigment into the skin by a hand tool or a machine. It gives an illusion of a “fuller”, more “powdered “ or “coloured in” brow, and helps blend areas with very little hair.

Immediately after getting your brows done, you may experience minor redness or swelling around the treated area, which typically goes away within 24 hours. Within the following hours, the pigment in the skin will darken, making the brows look more bold than they were initially. This is normal! The ink will look dark and warm the first few days as it oxidizes in the skin, and will go back to normal. You can expect the brows to heal 30%-40% lighter than they were immediately after your appointment.
Around day 3-4, you may notice light scabbing and flaking on the treated area. This is normal! Please refrain from picking at the brows. Doing so will result in loss of pigment in those areas. Brows may appear spotty or patchy until the entire brow has finished healing. Once all the flaking is complete (typically around day 10), the brows will appear lighter. The skin will normalize over the next 4-6 weeks and the pigment will return to the skin in it’s healed color.
At 4-6 weeks, your brows will be fully healed. Whatever pigment that does not return will be addressed at your touch up appointment. At this appointment, we will asses your retention, touch up the spots that didn’t stick, and can adjust the pigment color to give you perfect brows!

For the first Microblading session, the entire procedure should take about 2 - 3 hours. During this session, your brows will be shaped and styled for your approval. We then follow with pigment color selection. Once the client is satisfied with the choices, we begin the procedure.
The client is to come in for a follow up visit in order to have any minor necessary touch ups. The second Microblading session takes place within 6 - 8 weeks of the initial session. This session will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete.

The pain level for the procedure is considered mild to none. Prior to the procedure a topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area, and also reapplied during the procedure. It’s important to note that everyone responds differently to anesthetic. Topical anesthetics used may contain lidocaine, prilocaine, benzocaine, tetracaine and epinephrine.
After the procedure, redness and slight swelling in the area is normal. Clients describe the area feeling similar to a light sunburn. Clients can take Tylenol, but not aspirin or ibuprofen.
